Leeds United pushed to sign Facundo Buonanotte in the January transfer window. The club had finally acquired a target they had pursued for most of the summer.
The Argentine was expected to come in and immediately become the creative spark for the team. But unfortunately he has not live up to the hype – Buonanotte has been poor since he arrived in the team. The midfielder has played himself out of a role in the team, with Daniel Farke leaving him out of the recent match day squads.
The Leeds boss has been after a creative profile for the midfield and attack, and has yet to get a player of that quality since he took charge of the team.
Leeds United transfer target denies Elland Road links
The Whites have been linked with Krasnodar playmaker Eduardo Spertsyan over the last year, however, a move has never materialized. There were links to the 25-year old ahead of this summer, but with this latest admission, Leeds now know his stance. Spertsyan recently spoke to local media Sports Express concerning interest from Leeds.
“I know absolutely nothing about [Leeds’ interest]. Really. These questions aren’t for me. If I leave, my preferences will probably be for Spain or Italy.
“England? That is probably another step up. I’m not afraid in principle, but it is better to get there via a different league. The most important thing is that I play and don’t just go somewhere else.”

Midfield is still a priority area for the club
Leeds United are stocked in midfield, but there are midfield profiles the team lacks. The Whites have solid defensive midfielders in the like of Ethan Ampadu, and great box-to-box options in Stach and Longstaff. But there is a distinct lack of creative playmakers; Brenden Aaronson has been used there but he is not exactly good at creating for others.
| Player | Chances Created | Big Chances Created |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Anton Stach | 55 | 9 |
| 2. Brenden Aaronson | 25 | 8 |
| 3. Sean Longstaff | 22 | 6 |
| 4. Gabriel Gudmundsson | 19 | 3 |
| 5. Dominic Calvert-Lewin | 17 | 2 |
This summer, the club need to find a solution for that area of the pitch. Leeds have lacked quality in attacking areas, and that has to do with a lack of creativity and consistent goalscorers. And with Facundo Buonanotte all but set to leave in the summer, the need will become more urgent.
