Daniel Farke and Leeds United will be fairly satisfied to leave Selhurst Park with a point after their 0–0 draw with Crystal Palace.

Leeds were handed a great chance to go in front during the first half when they won a penalty inside the Palace box, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin put his effort wide, missing the opportunity to score his 11th Premier League goal of the season.

The task became even tougher just before half-time when Gabriel Gudmundsson was shown a second yellow card and sent off. Even so, Leeds showed plenty of resilience after the break, digging in with ten men to earn a valuable point.

Daniel Farke was not happy about another refereeing performance. However, the result kept Leeds three points clear of the relegation zone in 15th in the Premier League table.

Wayne Rooney and Micah Richards predict Leeds’ relegation fate

Micah Richards indicated that while Leeds are in the fight for survival, they do not seem like a team that are on their way out of the Premier League this season.

He is confident that the Whites will do just enough to stay up by the end of the season.

Richards said on the BBC’s Match of the Day: “Whether Leeds are in that conversation or not [to go down], they always feel like they’re in the game, they can create chances, so I think Leeds will do enough.”

Wayne Rooney feels Leeds’ home form will save them this season, and he is more worried about Nottingham Forest and Tottenham at this stage of the campaign.

He added, “I think Leeds’ home form makes it a very difficult place to go.

“I agree, I worry for Forest but also for Tottenham, I still think there’s something not quite right.”

Important point for Leeds at Palace

Farke may reflect on the missed penalty as a decisive moment, as it could easily have secured three vital points away from home. Even so, a draw still represents a positive outcome for Leeds.

Down to ten men, Leeds had to withstand sustained pressure throughout the second half, while the Crystal Palace players were jeered by their own supporters at full-time as they left the pitch.

16 Tottenham Hotspur 30 7 9 14 40 47 -7 30
17 Nottingham Forest 30 7 8 15 28 43 -15 29
18 West Ham United 30 7 8 15 36 55 -19 29
19 Burnley 30 4 8 18 32 58 -26 20
20 Wolverhampton Wanderers 30 3 7 20 22 52 -30 16

With Nottingham Forest also failing to win, Leeds end the gameweek still three points clear of West Ham, who sit 18th in the table.

If Leeds do go on to avoid relegation this season, this could ultimately be remembered as a hugely important point during a crucial stage of the campaign for Farke and his side.
