Leeds United welcome Brentford to Elland Road on Saturday night as the Whites attempt to pick up their first win in the league since 6 February.

Although Daniel Farke’s side has gone over a month without a win, they remain three points above the relegation zone after picking up some good draws against Chelsea, Aston Villa and most recently, Crystal Palace despite being down to ten men.

Former Villa player Gabby Agbonlahor expects Leeds’ wait for a win to go on, with the Englishman predicting the Whites to draw their upcoming tie with Brentford, who currently sit in 7th place in the Premier League.

Paul Merson has also had his say on the upcoming game, with the former Arsenal player also delivering a bold relegation verdict regarding the Whites.

Paul Merson expects Leeds to draw against Brentford

Although it may not be the most glamorous watch at times, draws are a vital reason as to why Leeds find themselves sat in 15th.

The 11 draws Leeds have accumulated are the second most in the top flight so far this season, with only Bournemouth having more, with 14 of their games finishing level.

When predicting the outcome of the game in his column for SportsKeeda, Merson expects Leeds to play out another stalemate against Brentford.

This will be a tight game because Leeds are playing well. This is such a hard game to call, I’m going for a draw in this game,” Merson said before predicting the game to finish 1-1, just as the reverse fixture did between the two sides back in December.

However, Merson did caveat this by delivering a bold prediction regarding Leeds’ battle to stay in the top flight. Merson claimed that “if Leeds get a result (against Brentford), I think they are safe from relegation.”

Data suggests Leeds hold an advantage over Brentford

Leeds infamously beat Brentford on the final day of the 2021/22 campaign to secure their status in the top flight, and hopefully, Farke’s side can replicate this result again at the weekend.

  • Historically, Leeds have gotten the better of Brentford, winning 15 of their 45 meetings
  • Brentford have won 13 of these meetings
  • The other 17 have ended in a draw (11v11)

With Leeds having just four games left at Elland Road this season, Farke’s side must maximise these opportunities to pick up valuable points in their battle against relegation.

Given Brentford’s lofty position in the league, a draw would certainly be a good result, but with how few points Leeds tend to pick up away from home, they certainly cannot afford to lose again at Elland Road from now until the end of the season.
