Daniel Farke had a lot to do before this season began at Leeds United. He had to run the rule over which players he felt were suitable to feature in the Premier League.

Fans knew that some of the players who starred in the Championship would have a tougher time in the top flight. Most of the Leeds boss’ decisions were made ahead of the pre-season camp in Germany. It was there that Patrick Bamford was let go, Mateo Joseph was sent on loan and Jack Harrison was brought back into the fold. Players who never made it to the camp, knew that they were not in the plans for this season.

The likes of Max Wober, Isaac Schmidt and Joe Gelhardt all forced moves away from the club during the summer transfer window.

Leeds United star is set to return to Elland Road this summer

Wober made it public that Leeds United told him to find a new club, and joined Werder Bremen on loan. He was soon joined by Isaac Schmidt, who also moved to the same club on a temporary deal. The versatile fullback was one of the late signings in the summer of 2024, that for some reason Farke did not want to play in the Championship.

Since his switch to the Bundesliga, Isaac Schmidt has found it difficult for minutes. This season, he has played a total of 545 minutes over 16 games. The left back has started just five league games. According to DeichStube, Werder have no interest in making the 26-year old a permanent signing. Schmidt ha not impressed during his time at the club, and even his £2.5 million fee is not enough to persuade them to do a deal.

49ers can learn a huge lesson from this season

Isaac Schmidt was one of many players Leeds United wanted to get rid of in the summer. But unfortunately, the players were only good enough to get temporary deals at other clubs. The likes of Mateo Joseph, Max Wober and Jack Harrison are unlikely to be signed on permanent deals and are set to return to Elland Road this summer. They will be back on the financial books, and the club will find it difficult to clear space for transfers. This shows that the 49ers should have done everything possible to sell some of these players instead of opting for loans, it would prevent all these issues from arising ahead of the summer window.
