Leeds United took a huge risk back in last summer’s transfer window. They decided to upgrade their attack by signing former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
After winning promotion from the Championship, some fans around the club questioned if Joel Piroe was the man to lead the line in the top flight. Piroe ended the last campaign as the club’s top scorer and won the league’s golden boot. But it was clear that Leeds United were after something different; and they signed Lukas Nmecha on a free transfer on the first day of the summer window.
The Whites were linked with multiple names as the summer went on, with the likes of Rodrigo Muniz and Callum Wilson on the club’s radar. However, as the deadline drew closer, and there was no movement on those fronts, Leeds decided to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Leeds United eye replacement for Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer
He had a slow start to his Leeds career; but started firing close to the end of last year. The striker’s run of goals were crucial as the club managed to turn their fortunes around in the middle of the season. Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s performances caught the eye of the public, with many tipping him for a return to the England fold. He was called up for the March international break as a reward for his season.
According to Football Insider, the 49ers are planning for the future as they are in search of a new striker. The club see Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s current goal drought as a huge issue, and would like to add another player in the position that they can rely on. So Leeds United will target one area of their squad this summer to bolster attacking options.

Smart squad planning by the 49ers
It was clear in January where the club was looking to focus on. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been a great addition, and so has Lukas Nmecha, but the club needs a player a level above those two. The duo are not clinical enough to be the main two options of a club that has to survive the Premier League everywhere. This was why the 49ers attempted to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen. If Leeds United can upgrade in attack, it would be a huge boost for the club ahead of next season.
