There are nine Premier League games left for the Whites to determine their fate this summer. As things stand, Leeds United are not out of hot water yet especially after the events of this week.
Daniel Farke’s men lost two games in a row to Manchester City and Sunderland. The club played well enough to at least get one result from both games, but unfortunately, their quality in front of goal let them down. They could have taken the lead against Manchester City but fluffed their lines in the first half, and against Sunderland, they struggled to create any clear cut chances.
Daniel Farke’s men will have to pick themselves up and play at their best for the final stretch of the season.
Leeds United set for massive fixtures in US tour
Even with the club’s Premier League status not secured yet, plans are already ongoing ahead of this summer. According to Adam Crafton of The Athletic; Leeds United, Liverpool, Wrexham and Sunderland will play a mini-series in the USA in pre-season. The games will be played in Philadelphia, Tampa and Nashville. The Leeds vs Liverpool fixture will be played at Soldier Field in Chicago.
Three of the four clubs involved have US-based ownership; Leeds United with the 49ers Enterprises, Liverpool with Fenway Sports Group Holdings and Wrexham is co-owned by American actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
Pre-season friendlies in the US are becoming a fruitful venture for Premier League clubs over the past few years – Manchester United reportedly earned £7.9 million from the PL Summer Series event last July.
Staying up this season is a lucrative prospect
Leeds United cannot afford to go down to the Championship next season. Not only does Premier League status bring in money, the global market is also ripe for success. Since the 49ers took over, they have aimed for the club to scale up when it comes to brand deals, endorsments and partnerships. Staying in the Premier League next season is also guaranteed money from the improved broadcast deal.
Plans around Elland Road stadium will also hinge on the club’s success; if the expansion is completed, the club earns more revenue. It is Leeds’ current status in the top flight that has gotten them games like this US mini-series where they can face other clubs in front of foreign fans. So they must make sure they avoid the drop by any means necessary.
