Former Leeds United star Archie Gray has been one of the few bright sparks for Tottenham Hotspur in a season that’s threatening to end in relegation.
Leeds chose to cash in on Gray in the summer of 2024, needing a couple of major sales to stay within FFP limits and raise funds for another push towards promotion.
It wasn’t the easiest start for the teenager in North London, but this season he’s comfortably been Spurs’ standout performer, even while being used in multiple roles.
If Tottenham do go down, Gray is expected to be one of the most sought-after players on the market, and there’s already talk of a possible return to Elland Road in the near future.
Leeds insider lifts lid on a potential Archie Gray return
Gray is almost certain to leave Tottenham if they get relegated, and some big European and Premier League clubs have their eyes on him.
If Leeds secure safety, the fans could demand that the club try to take the teenage midfielder back to Elland Road in the upcoming summer transfer window.
A deal could be possible if the midfielder really wants to return to the Whites, but BBC Radio Leeds reporter Adam Pope is unsure whether it is a possibility.
He insisted that a potential deal cannot be ruled out definitively; stranger things have happened in football.
However, Leeds insider does not see Gray returning to Elland Road, and he is not aware of the Whites securing a buy-back clause in the agreement with Tottenham.
“Never say never”, Pope said on BBC Sport.
“But I don’t see Archie returning to the club any time soon, and I am not aware of any buy-back clause.”
Leeds fans will love to see him return
Archie Gray has only strengthened his reputation since leaving Leeds United and is now widely seen as one of the most exciting young players in England.
If Tottenham Hotspur do go down, it’s hard to imagine him sticking around for another season in the Championship. An exit would feel almost inevitable.
Should Leeds manage to stay up, there’s a genuine chance they could bring him back to Elland Road this summer. Financially, they won’t be able to match some of the bigger clubs circling, but football isn’t always just about money, and the emotional pull of Leeds could still carry weight for him.

A return to his boyhood club, playing Premier League football, would be a compelling proposition.
Realistically, any deal would likely have to be a loan. Spurs would probably want to keep control over his long-term future, while Leeds may struggle to meet the kind of fee that could be demanded.
Still, if a few things fall into place, there’s a very real scenario where Gray ends up back at Leeds sooner rather than later.
