Daniel Farke made some key changes to the Leeds United squad in the summer. Heading into the Premier League, the recruitment was done to improve the quality of the team.
That meant most players who were regulars in the Championship would have to make way. The club recruited 10 new players in a summer spending spree that saw the likes of Jaka Bijol and Anton Stach arrive at Elland Road. Aside the signings, Farke made some key decisions during the time of the pre season training camp.
Patrick Bamford was the first casualty, as he was not included in this season’s plans, thus the striker agreed to terminate his contract. Leeds also gave the green light for many players to leave: Isaac Schmidt, Max Wober, Joe Gelhardt and Mateo Joseph all left on loan.
Club director makes huge claim about Leeds United star
Isaac Schmidt was signed in the Championship last season, and rarely had a chance to prove himself. After he arrived he was unfortunate to miss weeks due to injury, and rarely maintained his fitness throughout the campaign. So in the summer, he joined Werder Bremen on loan in order to get some playing time with the World Cup around the corner.
| Stat | Total |
|---|---|
| Games Played | 15 |
| Minutes Played | 524 |

| Subbed In | 10 |
| Subbed Off | 5 |
| Unused Substitute | 6 |
Unfortunately for him, things have not gone smoothly – he has played just 524 minutes in the league and is yet to make an appearance in a cup competition. Werder Bremen managing director of football Clemens Fritz has revealed that the defender is not happy about his playing time.
“It’s normal that he’s not happy with his current situation. Isaac did a decent job in his appearances” Fritz told DeichStube.
“Olivier Deman has been doing very well lately. He’s also been a real threat with his left foot on crosses and forward runs.
“We’ll need all the lads until the end of the season”

Leeds need to make a decision this summer
Isaac Schmidt is just another player the Whites need to make a decision on in the summer. He was one of the signings brought in last season when Daniel Farke needed options and depth. Schmidt was the perfect squad player on paper; he could play both fullback roles and even act as a winger – Farke even deployed him there late in the season. But for some reason, the Leeds boss was not a big fan of him in the Premier League when the club clearly lacked depth at left back. It will be interesting to see what happens with him in the next few months.
