‘Not realistic…’ – Keith Andrews makes brutally honest Leeds United admission ahead of Brentford clash at Elland Road

Leeds United were the best team in the Championship last season, and hit the 100-point mark in the league. Only a handful of teams have achieved that in this era, showing how dominant they were.

Daniel Farke was able to put together one of the most formidable attacks as the Whites ended with over 90 league goals. This was despite losing three of their best players even before the season started. Leeds United won the league title on the final day of the season, crowning their promotion campaign in style.

But the club have found life in the Premier League very difficult; this season has not been an easy ride. It took the team till midway in the season before the team gelled enough to get results.

Keith Andrews gives honest opinion on Leeds United this season

With eight league games left, the Whites have an important clash against Brentford on Saturday. And ahead of the game, Keith Andrews has said he is impressed with how Leeds United have navigated this campaign.

“It’s very difficult for promoted clubs to get things right on a lot of fronts to give them the best possible chance to stay in the league. How they balance the finances, what type of recruitment, what type of people they bring in, and what they change in terms of their style of play. Because they’ve gone from being a dominant force in the Championship to realistically, not being a dominant force in the Premier League, I think that’s unrealistic. It can be really difficult, I think what you’ve seen this year is that the promoted teams have made a really good fist of it. Leeds have been very, very competitive and are a very difficult team to play against.”

Brentford sit in 7th place in the league, and have an outside chance of making a European place.

Brentford boss is right

The transition from the Championship to the Premier League has always been difficult, and this is why the last three to four seasons have seen all three newly-promoted sides go back down. Getting quality as a promoted side is difficult, and costs a lot. The 49ers tried their best with recruitment in the summer window, but even that does not look to be enough. This year looks to be set to break the trend, as Sunderland managed to build up a huge point tally in the first half of the season. Leeds too can secure their safety in the coming weeks, if they are able to get crucial points. That kicks off when they host Brentford at Elland Road on Saturday night.
