England played out a 1-1 with Uruguay at Wembley on Friday night, with Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin being subbed on in the 56th minute of the international friendly.

Calvert-Lewin missed a golden opportunity during the game that had Ian Wright “screaming,” according to Emma Hayes, who was on punditry duties for the game.

It was a game that lacked action and overall quality, with Marcelo Bielsa’s side managing to equalise late on courtesy of a 94th-minute penalty, which Federico Valverde converted.

A talkSPORT pundit shared his thoughts on the game, as well as Calvert-Lewin’s performance, as the 29-year-old aims to book his spot on the plane for the World Cup this summer.

Adrian Durham delivers brutally honest Calvert-Lewin player rating

Calvert-Lewin’s miss against Uruguay will not have done him any favours when it comes to being selected for Tuchel’s final World Cup squad.

TalkSPORT’s Durham gave his player ratings following the dull affair, with Calvert-Lewin receiving a 4/10 for his cameo in a post on their official Instagram account.

Luckily for Calvert-Lewin, Dominic Solanke, who started ahead of him, was given a 2/10 for his performance, meaning the backup striker spot within the squad behind Harry Kane is seemingly still up for grabs.

However, Calvert-Lewin will be kicking himself for not putting away his chance, which was tailor-made for the forward and his exceptional aerial attributes.

Data suggests Calvert-Lewin struggled to get involved during the Uruguay game

As previously mentioned, the England game last night will not live long in the memory, perhaps meaning even more focus will be put on Calvert-Lewin’s miss.

During his 34-minute cameo, Calvert-Lewin had limited involvement in the game, and the data reflects this.

  • Calvert-Lewin had two shots whilst he was on the pitch, with one of them being labelled a big chance, which he missed
  • On the ball, the forward was sloppy, completing just two of his four passes
  • Calvert-Lewin showcased his work rate, however, winning one tackle as well as two of the three duels he was involved in (Sofascore)

The forward will be hoping Tuchel decides to involve him again in England’s upcoming game against Japan, which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday evening.
