Leeds United are still reeling from the events of Tuesday night; a game that looked promising ended up in disappointment. The Whites suffered just their second defeat at Elland Road in the calendar year.
The visitors were dominated for most of the game, being unable to create anything significant. Leeds on the other hand, were able to test the opponent goalkeeper on multiple occasions. But just like in the Manchester City game, Sunderland needed one moment to decide the game – a penalty after Ethan Ampadu was deemed to have handled the ball in the box.
From the goal till the final whistle, Leeds did their best to pull one back, but were unable to create significant openings.
Simon Jordan gives Leeds United relegation verdict
Two defeats in a row at this point of the season is really problematic; teams at the bottom of the table are desperate to climb up. Leeds still have a cushion, but nothing has been confirmed with 9 games to go. Simon Jordan on the other hand, believes Tuesday night’s defeat was not significant, and that the Whites can still survive. He said on talkSPORT:
“There’s nothing about Leeds that I’ve seen in recent weeks. I know they’ve lost last night to Sunderland, but the principle of what I’ve seen from Leeds in the last two months does not even have the vaguest whiff of a relegation looking side. Look at the way they play, look at the way they took it to Manchester City the other day, they’ve drawn too many games when they could have won them. The points tally and position tells you they’re in the relegation mix but the feel of Leeds and the way they’re playing doesn’t give me any feel that that’s a side that’s going to get anywhere near dragged into the bottom three.”
Season is not over yet for the Whites
Simon Jordan makes a solid point, Leeds have lost two games in a row but those losses were not deserved. If things had gone their way, they could have even ended up getting a win in at least one of the games. The Whites showed their prowess against Manchester City, and were the better side against Sunderland on Tuesday.
Daniel Farke has to pick up the team now and prepare for their next game. From now till the end of the season, Leeds cannot drop anymore points if they want to guarantee another season in the top flight. They must just make sure that they take their chances in future matches.
