Leeds United had to settle for a 0-0 draw against Brentford at Elland Road on Saturday, taking a point in their fight to remain in the Premier League.

It wasn’t the home win they were looking for, and it stretches their winless league run to six matches. That said, they at least avoided defeat and added to their points total.

West Ham’s defeat at Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest’s big win at Tottenham on Sunday kept Leeds 16th in the table, four points clear of the relegation zone.

The weekend’s results have prompted Alan Shearer to make a huge claim about who are now likely to go down at the end of the season.

Alan Shearer drops brutal relegation verdict

Tottenham’s defeat at home against Forest is now being seen as a seminal moment in the Premier League season. Spurs’ newfound confidence was shattered in an extremely poor afternoon in north London.

Shearer has slammed Spurs for being an embarrassment on Sunday and feels their reaction to pressure on Sunday tells a lot about the team.

The north London club are still just above the relegation zone, but they have not won a game in 2026, and the former striker feels they are ‘sleepwalking towards relegation’.

Shearer said on Premier League Productions: “It was an embarrassing afternoon for Spurs.

“They were asked the question of how are you going to handle the situation at home after a decent result last weekend?

“Now the pressure is all on you to go and win, and that’s what you get.

“Is that the very best you can give?

“That to me seems like a team sleepwalking towards relegation.”

Leeds still need some points to feel secure

West Ham and Tottenham’s defeats on Sunday meant that Leeds remained where they were ahead of the weekend – 16th in the table and four points clear of the relegation zone.

However, Leeds cannot afford to relax as it is still very tight at the bottom end of the table, and Daniel Farke feels they may still need as many as seven points to survive.

Leeds have games against Wolves and Burnley at home and will visit Tottenham during the run-in, and this is where they need to wrap up Premier League survival.

They cannot afford to keep depending on other teams to drop points to remain clear of the drop zone for the rest of the season.
