Tyler Roberts returns to Leeds amid injury woes

Published on

Leeds United forward Tyler Roberts’ loan spell at Championship side QPR is set for a premature end as the 24-year-old has returned to his parent club.

The decision was made due to repeated injuries which have seriously hampered Roberts’ time in London. He has not made an appearance for the R’s since January.

Roberts was sent on a season-long loan to QPR last summer in order to play more minutes; something which he would have struggled for at Leeds. During his time there, he managed 3 goals in 18 appearances.

QPR boss Gareth Ainsworth confirmed the news in a press conference today:

“Tyler’s currently back at Leeds and we’re all hoping he can get his career back on track. Hopefully that’ll be this season – but it’d be towards the end rather than anytime soon,” he said (as per QPR’s Twitter).

Roberts set for Leeds return

What a blow this is for Roberts. You can only feel for him, as his footballing prospects have once again been damaged by injury.

Whilst true he struggled during his time playing for the Whites, there was definitely a solid player in there. It was always his shooting or final ball which would let him down, and it was these qualities which a loan spell in the Championship was intended to sharpen up.

Furthermore, it’s hard to see where he fits in at West Yorkshire now. With Rodrigo, Patrick Bamford, record-signing Georginio Rutter and Wilfried Gnonto all ahead of him in the pecking order – he’s going to struggle for minutes to develop his game further.

You just have to wish him well and hope he recovers quickly.
