In January, Leeds United had a quiet start to the transfer window. In the first few weeks, it did not look like the club was going to splash the cash, before they got busy.
Leeds signed Facundo Buonanotte on loan till the end of the season. Reports revealed that the Whites had already been in contact with the players camp in December which facilitated the move. The fanbase got even more excited when news emerged about Leeds attempting to sign Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.
The Whites made an enquiry and even had a bid rejected for the Norwegian international. Strand Larsen’s price tag was in excess of £40 million, which Leeds wanted to pay in the summer with a loan deal and an obligation to buy. Wolves wanted the cash up front and eventually sold the striker to Crystal Palace.
Premier League rivals make move for Leeds United target
According to TEAMtalk, interest in Union Saint-Gilloise striker Promise David has grown exponentially. The report states that Newcastle, West Ham, Leeds, Sunderland, and Brighton have all sent officials to watch the player in Belgium and in European competition. David has 12 goals and two assists in all competitions this season.
Newcastle are said to be one of the clubs that has extensively monitored the Canadian international over the past few months. The report adds that West Ham have held talks with the striker in January, but he was not keen on a move. The Hammers will be keen to return for Promise David in the summer, provided they are able to seal their Premier League status at the end of the season. Union Saint-Gilloise have put a £17.5 million price tag on the 24-year old ahead of the World Cup.
Promise David would be a great addition
The Canadian forward would be a quality addition to the team. Depending on wherever the Whites finish in the summer, their goal scoring problems still stand out – outside Nmecha and Calvert-Lewin, the team is short of goals. The two strikers have been influential in the team this season, but their injury worries are still a concern. While Calvert-Lewin has been fit for most of the campaign, Nmecha has only played 925 minutes.
Promise David is a physical profile close to what the Whites have and would be a great fit alongside either of Nmecha or Calvert-Lewin. Leeds United can go up another level if they make a signing of such quality, but in order to do that they need to stay in the Premier League. That is the only way they will beat clubs like Newcastle to sign the 24-year old.
