Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic recently confirmed that the Leeds forward’s return to the MKM Stadium on a permanent deal is only a matter of time.
According to The Athletic, Joe Gelhardt’s medical at Hull has been underway since Wednesday and he is set to complete the transfer today.
Hull and Leeds have reached an agreement over a deal worth £6.5m that would see the forward join the Tigers on a permanent deal in the coming hours.
Wrexham and Birmingham City also joined the race to sign the Leeds forward this summer due to his record in the Championship in the last 18 months.
However, Hull stepped up their efforts this week and are now on the verge of re-signing him on a permanent deal.
Gelhardt has had the best spell of his senior career at Hull, and has always been keen to return to the MKM Stadium this summer.
Joe Gelhardt never got the chance under Daniel Farke
There was real excitement around Joe Gelhardt when Leeds signed him from Wigan, and he looked brilliant in his early days as he played a part in their revival in 2022.
However, he had a difficult loan spell away from Elland Road, and under Daniel Farke, he never got the chance to prove his mettle.
The Leeds manager was happy to loan him out again and never really backed the forward to make an impact in the first team.
At Hull, he has found a club where he is loved and rated, and he has played the best football of his senior career for the Tigers.
