Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has made a habit of signing former Leeds United stars this season, and is now plotting a raid on Elland Road in the summer window.
Wilder played a big part in convincing former Leeds striker Patrick Bamford to join Sheffield United in November, after he left the Whites last summer under acrimonious circumstances.
The Sheffield United manager again worked hard to sign former Leeds stars Joe Rothwell and Kalvin Phillips in the winter window as he seeks to break into the Championship’s top six by the end of the season.
He is already plotting to bring one more former teammate of Bamford to Bramall Lane, but this time he is going straight to Leeds to get his target next summer.
Sheffield United want to sign Harry Gray on loan
Harry Gray joined Rotherham on loan in the winter window and is expected to play a big role if they have to survive in League One this season.
He is scheduled to return to Leeds in the summer, but it is unclear whether Daniel Farke is prepared to use him regularly in the first team next season.
According to Sportsboom, Sheffield United are interested in getting their hands on the 17-year-old striker on loan in the next summer window.
Leeds may decide that the youngster needs a loan at a top Championship club next season for him to further develop, and Sheffield United could emerge as a suitable destination.
Patrick Bamford shares a good relationship with Gray, and advised him when the teenager was considering loan offers in the winter window.
Wilder has also claimed that he shares a strong equation with Daniel Farke, and he may try to leverage that relationship to sign the teenager on loan.
A move to Sheffield United will also allow the youngster to stay in Yorkshire. However, no decision on his future has been made yet.
Leeds have a decision to make
If Leeds stay up, there is a real possibility that they will look to loan Harry Gray out again next summer as the club are expected to sign another striker.
After getting a taste of senior football at Rotherham, the teenager is unlikely to welcome the possibility of spending a season on the bench at Leeds.
Another loan deal seems likely, and a club of Sheffield United’s size could be the perfect place for him to gain more experience at a higher level.
Patrick Bamford’s presence at Bramall Lane could also play a key role in convincing Gray to move to Sheffield United on loan in the summer window.
