Leeds United and Manchester City played an intense match that had high stakes on Saturday night. The Whites wanted more points on the board to clinch safety, while City needed a win to close the gap on Arsenal.
To no one’s surprise, Leeds started the game flying, they dominated Manchester City for most of the early proceedings. However they failed to make it count, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Brenden Aaronson missing chances in the first half. Antoine Semenyo scored the only goal of the game just before half time to give the visitors the win. It was an exciting match between the two teams, but the biggest talking points in the game came after the final whistle.
Daniel Farke speaks after red card on Saturday
When the game ended, Daniel Farke approached match referee Peter Bankes to let his thoughts known on not adding more minutes in extra time. Bankes promptly sent the Leeds boss off, and Farke had to be held back by his own players. The German had the chance to speak on the referee’s decision in Monday’s press conference.
”I have never received a red card in 20 years as a manager. I missed one game last season after celebrating a late goal.
”I can’t tell you what happens after the red card. Perhaps Peter wanted to be the first one to give me a red; maybe he could have given me a yellow card.
”I’m a very self-critical person; when I make a mistake, I hold my hands up, but in this scenario, I don’t think it should be a red card.”

Outburst will cost Leeds United
Daniel Farke is completely right about what happened in the game, and on another day these decisions would have gone Leeds’ way. Unfortunately, his outburst gave Peter Bankes the opportunity to show a red card, and now the Leeds boss will be handed a suspension.
At this point of the season, losing Farke on the touchline would be a huge blow to the club. He has been ever present this season and close to the action where he can affect things. And with the fixtures lined up, it will be difficult for the team to compete without him in the dugout on matchdays. Fans will no doubt be frustrated with how the refereeing went on Saturday night, and they have every chance to feel aggrieved.
