Leeds United suffered a huge defeat in the League Cup on Wednesday night. The night ended on a sour note for some of the players who were making their first start for the club.
Daniel Farke mentioned that he would try and compete to reach the next stage, but made many changes to the lineup.
He handed debuts to Michael Zetterer, and deadline day signing Melvin Bard. Farke later explained that he handed starts to some players that had not played much this season.
The likes of Dan James and Brenden Aaronson had their chance on Wednesday night.

Leeds United lead by a goal going into half time, and doubled their lead early in the second half.
Then a dubious penalty was awarded, giving Chelsea a way back into the game. The Blues then went on a run, scoring five goals from the 55th minute till the end of the game.
Daniel Farke addressed Michael Zetterer and the debut he had on Wednesday night.
”Let’s be honest it was a nightmare debut. Came in, looks very good for 55 minutes. Was good with his feet and one good save.”
”Then less than 25 mins later six goals go in after six shots. You feel a bit for him, who wants to have such a debut? It was so so difficult. Perhaps for the second goal he could jump and dive but probably didn’t expect Palmer to take the finish so soon.”
”Sometimes in life, you can have the worst possible start. There is already a bit of weight and pressure. But they are all living a privileged life, they are football players on Premier League level, they don’t need too much sympathy.”
Farke then backed his new keeper, saying that Zetterer could redeem himself the next chance he gets.
”He plays for a very passionate club and he has to handle it right now, and has to make sure that he shows next time when he gets the chance and shows a proper performance and then he wins everyone over.”
”He’s a good goalkeeper. We wish he showed that yesterday with a clean sheet, of course.”

Blame should not lie solely on Leeds stopper
Daniel Farke is right; Zetterer had a very horrible debut that Leeds fans will remember for a long time.
He now has to take the next chance to make everyone forget what happened. And that is motivation for him to continue being a great goalkeeper.
On Wednesday night, Zetterer cannot solely be blamed for the defeat and the goals conceded.
Leeds were horrible after the first 10 minutes in the second half. And even despite the fact that Chelsea were awarded a dubious penalty, Daniel Farke completely failed to manage the game.
Michael Zetterer should take some blame, but there is plenty of it to go around.
The replay of this game clearly shows that Michael Zetterer was not solely to blame for the outcome of this game … as far as the ever so wrongly given penalty he was a class gk, despite being put under pressure by team mates who constantly gave away possession. Jarred Gillett only knows why he made that decision so quickly and had VAR been in operation, it would, without a doubt be ruled out.
