England boss Thomas Tuchel handed ‘special invite’ to watch Leeds United star

Leeds United have managed to turn their season around in the last couple of games. The Whites were in the relegation zone, with many reports that Daniel Farke would be sacked.

But after a miraculous series of performances, Leeds are now out of the relegation zone, and have managed to go three games without losing. In that run, they have faced Chelsea, Liverpool and Brentford. Much of the credit goes to the players, and Farke, who has adapted his tactics game-by-game to help his team overcome the odds.

His switch to the 3-5-2 helped the Whites beat Chelsea, and when the system was not working out against the Reds, he switched back to the 4-2-3-1 as his side came from 2-0 down to get a 3-3 draw.

A key player in this run has been Dominic Calvert-Lewin; the striker has burst into life in recent games – scoring four goals in his last four games. This has lead to calls for him to be brought back into the England fold. When Farke was asked about the possibility about that happening soon, he spoke about his relationship with Thomas Tuchel, and how well Calvert-Lewin has been playing:

“I’ve got such a good relationship to Thomas [Tuchel]. He will know exactly what he needs to win the World Cup.” he told Sky Sports.

“If you deliver with consistency, then every manager and coach in the world is aware and will be ready for this. Dominic has proven this before. He has several caps at least for England.

“If he keeps going like this, I think his goals are even more remarkable for a promoted side who can’t play that dominant, like sides who are fighting for the title. Then there are also more chances to be in the spotlight.

“My relationship to Thomas is so close. He knows when he has any questions, he can call my number and we can speak about it. But it always depends on the performances. The sky’s the limit for him.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has earned every right to be in the England mix

Currently, the 28-year old is among the most in-form English players in the Premier League. His five goals means he is the top scorer for Leeds this season. It is not only the goals this season; his hold-up play has been phenomenal at times.

English Top Scorers Premier League This Season
Player Club Goals Scored
Danny Welbeck Brighton 7
Phil Foden Manchester City 7
Jarrod Bowen West Ham 5
Dominic Calvert-Lewin Leeds United 5
Morgan Rogers Aston Villa 5

Calvert-Lewin never stops running, and is a huge threat in the air. Leeds have benefitted so much from his goalscoring form and will hope that can continue till the end of the season.
