Leeds United boss Daniel Farke made his demands clear at the end of last season. To him, he was open to staying long term at Elland Road to continue the project.
The 49ers hired him back in 2023, with the aim of bringing the club back into the top flight.
He delivered, and under him, Leeds have survived their first season back in the competition. Elland Road will have another season of Premier League football thanks to the effort of the players and coach.
Farke is in the last 12 months of his contract and has reiterated his desire to stay.
But he wants the 49ers to show their ambition on the pitch and vastly improve the squad ahead of next season.
Graham Smyth drops major update on Leeds United dream target
Leeds United announced the arrival of Harry Wilson on a free transfer last week.
The team has added much needed quality to an attack that underwhelmed for most parts of the campaign. Leeds also added a player with vast Premier League experience in the process.
Tarik Muharemovic is also set to arrive, as the 49ers found their replacement for Pascal Struijk.
He did not come cheap; with a £34 million price tag, showing the ambition of the ownership.
According to Graham Smyth, a potential target which the club had could now be available in a shocking turn of events. On the Inside Elland Road podcast, Smyth revealed that Leeds are ‘waiting’ on James Trafford.
“I think they are waiting for Trafford.
“I think Trafford’s future will be decided now that the World Cup is over.
“I think Leeds are waiting for them to get themselves into a good position and jostle with others to try and get him in.
“Dream signing if they can get it over the line.”
England are currently at the World Cup, where they will conclude their campaign in the third-placed playoff this weekend.

James Trafford would be a statement signing
Leeds United have pursued goalkeepers for most of this summer window.
But most of the targets were not from the Premier League. James Trafford could be the perfect arrival for the Whites; he has experience at this level and was instrumental in two trophy wins last season.
Despite being the reserve keeper, Trafford showed up and lead Manchester City to the FA Cup and EFL Cup.
Landing a player of this quality would be a tremendous coup by the 49ers. It now lies with them to convince the England star, who has spoken about his ambition for the future.
Fans would be excited if the ownership pulls this off.
Maybe 49ers could gift Trafford to Leeds, not done much else?
