Leeds United icon Eddie Gray needs no introduction to supporters of the Whites.
The tricky winger was an integral part of Don Revie’s side during the most successful spell in the club’s history to date, with Gray making 454 appearances as a player for United, whilst also managing them on two occasions.
The Gray family are synonymous with Leeds, and now Eddie’s great nephew, Harry, is the latest in a long line of Gray’s to be on the books with the West Yorkshire outfit.
Eddie recently shared his thoughts on Harry, with the Leeds legends’ opinion certainly being one that supporters will listen take note of.
‘If he’s good enough…’ – Eddie Gray opens up on Harry Gray’s future
Harry Gray, 17, is currently out on loan at Rotherham United in League One, with Leeds supporters frequently checking on the teenager’s progress as he aims to establish himself as a regular starter at Elland Road in the future.
Like his brother Archie, who now plays for Tottenham after leaving Leeds in 2024, both brothers are highly rated and are expected to have impressive careers in the game.
Whilst Harry, in particular, is still very young in his career, Eddie commented on the dilemma his great-nephew will have when it comes to pledging his international allegiance to either Scotland or England.
When speaking on a recent episode of the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Eddie said:
“He’s (Harry) very outspoken. When he was younger, he used to say ‘I’m going to play for Scotland’, but I think if he’s good enough, he’ll play for England as well. Their grandad, my brother (Frank), played for Scotland.
“Andrew, their dad, played for Scotland as well. It’s a big tradition in the family. If they’re growing up in England, playing for English clubs, I think it just follows that they’ll end up playing for England. Archie’s played for the underage sides for England, if Harry progresses how it looks as if he’ll progress, he’ll end up playing for the English sides as well. We’ll wait and see.”

Data suggests Harry Gray is impressing out on loan
Whilst an international call-up may seem far-fetched at the moment, if the teenager can continue to impress at Rotherham, he could certainly find himself as a part of the first team squad at Leeds in the coming years.
Harry Gray – Season Stats at Rotherham
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Matches played | 6 |
| Goals | 2 |
| Key passes per game | 1 |
| Shots per game | 1.7 |
| Balls recovered per game | 2.2 |
| Total duels won per game | 4 (41%) |
Playing men’s football on a regular basis can only be a benefit for the youngster who will hopefully look to follow in his great uncle’s footsteps and become a legend at Elland Road.
The 49ers are evidently keen to strengthen Daniel Farke’s options up top, with Leeds being heavily linked to Jorgen Strand Larsen throughout the January transfer window.
However, if Gray can continue to grow and develop, the 49ers may opt to invest these funds elsewhere if Leeds’ teenage sensation can break into the first team picture under Farke.
