Leeds captain “too expensive” to keep if club are relegated

Published on

According to Phil Hay of The Athletic, Leeds feel it would be costly to keep Rodrigo if the club are relegated.

If the club are relegated to the Championship, the Spaniard’s reported £100k a week deal would be hard to keep on their books.  Rodrigo is one of the club’s highest earners, and was made a vice-captain this season.

He has had a fantastic season, scoring 15 goals for this poor Leeds side. The Spaniard will have a lot of interest this summer. With Spain’s Euro 2024 squad in mind next summer, he may seek a move to a higher calibre league than the Championship.

A return to Spain was reported earlier this season, with the 32-year old open to leaving the club. Rodrigo has just over 12 months remaining on his contract, which would mean the club will have to sell him if needed.

The Whites are in 19th in the Premier League, and will need a win against Spurs on Sunday to stand a chance of staying in the English top flight.
