Following an impressive return to the Premier League that ended with a 14th-place finish, Leeds United are now focused on the summer transfer window and how they can take the next step as a club.
Chairman Paraag Marathe has suggested that Leeds will not need the same level of squad overhaul as they did last year, with the club confident they already have a strong base to build upon.
That said, Daniel Farke has been clear about his expectations. The Leeds boss wants the club to continue pushing forward and has emphasised the importance of showing ambition in the market, making it clear that maintaining the status quo is not part of his long-term vision.
Leeds are undecided about whether to sign a new goalkeeper in the upcoming transfer window. However, they are very much keeping tabs on Newcastle’s Nick Pope.
Leeds face battle with Ipswich Town for Nick Pope
Leeds are still undecided on whether to go with Karl Darlow and Lucas Perri as their goalkeepers next season, as things stand.
Darlow is expected to sign a new contract soon, but the club remain undecided on whether to sell Perri and bring in a new goalkeeper this summer.
If the Brazilian is sold, Leeds want to sign an experienced goalkeeper and Newcastle’s Nick Pope is very much seen as a top target at Elland Road.
However, according to Sun, Ipswich Town are also interested in securing a deal to take the Newcastle star to Portman Road in the upcoming transfer window.
Christian Walton held onto the number 1 shirt ahead of Alex Palmer during the run-in, although McKenna could see ex-Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope as a safer and more experienced choice.
Both clubs have made their interest known to Pope, and Newcastle won’t stand in his way if he wants to leave the club in the upcoming window.
Pope has a year left on his contract and is expected to be available for a cut-price fee this summer.
Leeds must make a decision soon
Daniel Farke made it clear with his actions in the second half of last season that he does not trust Lucas Perri enough to be a number 1 in the Premier League.
Despite his heroics in the FA Cup semi-final against West Ham, the Brazilian didn’t get close to the team in the Premier League.
Darlow remained the choice for the Premier League games, and he is expected to sign a new contract soon to extend his stay at Elland Road.
Leeds are undecided on whether to sell Perri and sign a goalkeeper. However, they have to make a decision soon, and it is clear what Farke wants.
If the Whites wait too long, they could see top targets such as Pope choose other clubs in the upcoming transfer window.
