It has become critical for Leeds United to get a goalkeeper through the door at Elland Road. The situation at the club has become more complex over the last few weeks.

Leeds went from having four first team goalkeepers last season, to just two this week.

Pre-season preparations have begun and Lucas Perri and Alex Cairns are the only two keepers under contract at the club. The plan will be to get at least one in before the Whites jet off to the US.

Illan Meslier was not offered a new contract and left on a free transfer.

Karl Darlow was expected to continue at the club, but he ended up choosing to move to Manchester United. Per reports, wages were not an issue, but Darlow was not set to be the club’s number one this coming campaign.

Lucas Perri’s situation at Leeds United is not concrete either.

According to reports, Italian club Torino are pushing very hard to bring the Brazilian in. He is believed to have agreed to personal terms, and is keen on moving this summer.

Leeds are said to sanction Perri’s departure only if they can find a replacement.

Corriello dello Sport, via Sports Witness, have claimed that the Whites have reached out to Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio.

Di Gregorio is not going to be the Italian side’s first choice next season, as Juventus plan to sign a new keeper. Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez and Spurs’ Guglielmo Vicario are high on their list.

TuttoSport have also reported that Leeds have made ‘timid’ inquiries about Di Gregorio, and have not really made a full push.

Di Gregorio clearly seems like a back up plan

Michele Di Gregorio was not an impressive first choice option for Juventus last season.

So it points to the fact that he will not be the first choice for the 49ers. Leeds are eyeing multiple keepers over the next few weeks as they push to find a starter for next season.

Names like Zion Suzuki and James Trafford seem to be higher on the list.

It could be difficult to sign either of these two; Suzuki is wanted by clubs across Europe, and when it comes to Trafford, his price tag could be an obstacle. But the 49ers need to push to get a quality name through the door.

Or else they will be forced to settle for Di Gregorio.

I personally think Darlow was treated badly by Farke. He saved us the last season we were in the championship by stepping in to take over from Mellier, then played well for the rest of the season helping us gain promotion. Then what happens ? He brings Perri in as our number 1 choice keeper over Darlow. Then what happens ? Perri messes up and guess what, step up again Carl Darlow to help us stay in the premiership. Then what happens ? Farke tells Darlow he’s not gonna be his No 1 for this coming season ! What a shitty and disgraceful way to treat someone who helped get us promoted and keep us in the premiership. In my opinion, Carl Darlow had at least one full season at number 1 for us. I don’t agree with his choice of club he’s gone to obviously, but what a cracking… Read more »
