Leeds United fans will be absolutely buzzing after their third Premier League game of the campaign. After a demoralizing loss away to Arsenal, the Whites’ next game was back at Elland Road.
Coming up against Newscastle United, many expected the worst especially after the shocking midweek loss to Sheffield Wednesday.
But in a surprising turn of events, Leeds once again got a positive result in front of their home crowd. They held the Magpies to a 0-0 draw. Eddie Howe’s side managed to put two goals past Liverpool with 10 men yet struggled on Saturday.
Leeds now have four points from three games to start the season, which is a very huge feat.

Eddie Howe speaks out on Leeds United result

Even though the game was evenly balanced, and both sides threatened to score, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe thinks his team dealt with the threat from Leeds better.
“I thought there was a lot of commitment from the players. This is a tough place to come to and I think we stood up to it really well. Defensively it was a very strong performance. I thought we looked organised, put our bodies on the line, blocked shots really well and stopped their main threats.
“We’re disappointed the other way that we didn’t cause them more problems. We had a few moments that you think could’ve led to more. We’re just in that moment where the goals aren’t flowing and that cost us today.”
Howe blames absences for result
The Magpies were missing key players for Saturday’s game. Anthony Gordon and Joelinton missed out. Howe believes their absence on the pitch was felt.
“Any team in the Premier League would miss their centre forward, so I think we’re in that bracket but we’re also missing Anthony Gordon and Joelinton too. I don’t think I can stand here and use that as an excuse. We still have very good players and can do more in that final third. It’s never been an issue for us, scoring goals, so we need to turn that round very quickly.”
