There are months until January, but Leeds United will definitely have their eye on how they can improve the team. It is something the ownership have done in the past.
Last year, they saw the need for firepower and tried to close a deal to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen.
Unfortunately for them, Crystal Palace stepped in and agreed to Wolves’ financial demands. The team also added Facundo Buonanotte on loan after losing Jack Harrison.
The 49ers thought the team would need a boost to finish the season on a high, and this year could follow a similar path.
Some fans feel the team did not strengthen well enough despite getting quality reinforcements through the door.
Which position would improve Leeds United most in January
Many at the club complained about the lack of a striker, given the current depth in the team.
Leeds United went into this season with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha as their senior options, which is a concern. The lack of a true playmaker also stands out when the team plays.
And just like last year, there seems to be a lack of defensive cover, considering that Leeds play a back three in most games.
So which area would need reinforcements in the coming months?

Striker

The most glaring hole in this Leeds United side; considering the injury-proneness of the current options, a new striker could be a good move.
| Team | Games (Starts) | Minutes Played | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dominic Calvert-Lewin | 7(5) | 459 | 4 | 0 |
| Lukas Nmecha | 6(2) | 213 | 0 | 2 |
Club chief Robbie Evans did state the difficulty in getting one through the door this summer. It is complicated; Leeds need a striker good enough to start games, and be okay with being the backup behind Calvert-Lewin.
If the club find someone to tick the boxes, then this would be the perfect move.
Attacking midfielder

Leeds signed Harry Wilson this summer, but the former Fulham man has not made an impactful start.
He has shown flashes of brilliance, and has already picked up an assist this season. His recent quad injury will set him back, and he will have to try and recover his form again.
| Player | Chances created | Big chances created |
|---|---|---|
| Anton Stach | 6 | 0 |
| Ethan Ampadu | 5 | 0 |
| Harry Wilson | 4 | 0 |
| James Justin | 4 | 1 |
Daniel Farke’s side are not that creative and will need all the help they can get.
A midfielder who can put chances on a plate for Dominic Calvert-Lewin would be a solid addition.
Defensive cover

It was revealed on deadline day that the addition of Melvin Bard was forced by Joe Rodon’s injury.
The club signed a left back who could play on the left of the back three to allow James Justin to play in other areas of the pitch. But Bard is not and out and out centre back.
Leeds have just four options at the position despite playing a back three system. If anyone goes down, it means that Bard might be forced to play in the middle of the defence.
