Leeds suffered yet another Premier League heartbreak on Saturday as they lost 2-1 to West Ham, courtesy of a late Michail Antonio goal.
However, one player who can hold his head up high is none other than Leeds goalkeeper Ilian Meslier, who made a flurry of fantastic saves during the match. In fact, he was so good that it prompted Michael Owen to recall a false memory of the young Frenchman.
‘I remember watching him in the Leeds academy when he was 16, and he just looked the part’ Owen was, in fairness, full of praise for the Leeds keeper. The issue is however, that Leeds didn’t sign Meslier until he was 19 years old on a loan deal from Lorient.
We would assume that Owen has mistaken Meslier for another youth goalkeeper at Leeds, but we can’t really ever know for sure.
