This past week was set to be a very important one for Leeds United, but it ultimately ended in disappointment at Wembley. The Whites put together a great FA Cup run since the end of last year.
The fans had been along for the ride for wins over Derby County and Norwich. Two penalty shootout wins, and a late scare against West Ham, saw the club make the semi-final of the competition for the first time in over 35 years. Unfortunately, the Whites came up against Chelsea at Wembley who eventually won the tie.
A lone goal from Blues captain Enzo Fernandez in the first half was enough for his side to win on the day. Leeds had so many chances in the game, but spurned them. At the end of the match, Daniel Farke was adamant that his side were good enough to win on Sunday, but it was just unfortunate that they lost.
Simon Jordan praises Leeds despite FA Cup defeat
The mood among the Leeds fanbase will dip a bit after the result, but the club could clinch Premier League safety this week. Simon Jordan has been speaking on talkSPORT about the FA Cup semi-final, and has said that the Whites have had a ”successful” season.
“They needed to turn up more in the first half; in the second half, they were far better, and if you look at the first 20 minutes of the second half, they put Chelsea back on their heels. Their goalkeeper made a great save, Dominic Calvert-Lewin could have done slightly better with his header. Leeds will look at this as a season, if they stay in the Premier League, of successes against the original backdrop of the forecast that the manager was going to get the boot, and they were going to struggle. If they stay up and get to an FA Cup semi-final, it will be a season of successes.”

Daniel Farke has done a great job
Simon Jordan is right; at the start of the season, if anybody told Leeds fans that they would reach the FA Cup final and avoid relegation, they would take it in a heartbeat. First season back in the top flight has seen them record some huge wins, and one memorable one against their rivals at Old Trafford. The FA Cup run might be over, but the club can focus on finishing the campaign on a high. The 49ers now have a lot to work on ahead of next season.
