Leeds United are still in a great place to secure Premier League safety despite the disappointment of losing against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday.
A narrow 1-0 defeat at Wembley meant Leeds’ hopes of reaching their first FA Cup final in more than five decades were dismantled by Chelsea.
Ethan Ampadu admitted after the game that his team were not good enough in the first half against Chelsea, and were deservedly beaten at Wembley.
However, Leeds have no time to dwell on it as they are still not mathematically secure and would like to win at home against Burnley on Friday night after the weekend’s results at the bottom end of the table.
Leeds United boosted in relegation battle following a major injury
Tottenham won their first game in 2026 when they beat Wolves 1-0 on Saturday. However, the three points came at a major cost to Spurs.
Roberto De Zerbi confirmed Xavi Simons’ knee injury, but refused to provide any details about the extent of the injury.
However, the details are now out, and it is not good news for Tottenham, with four Premier League games left in the season.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Dutchman has suffered an ACL injury and will be out for seven or more months as things stand.
He won’t play for Tottenham again this season and is only expected to return to action towards the end of 2026.
Simons’ form has played a key role in Tottenham’s recent performances. However, they will be without his services for the last four games of the season.
If Tottenham get relegated, Simons would have played his last Premier League game for Spurs. However, his injury is likely to complicate any option of leaving the north London club in the summer.
The Whites will not have to care about him
Leeds will face Tottenham away from home next month, and the game could have major ramifications for who could go down from the Premier League.
However, Daniel Farke’s men will not have to worry about keeping Simons quiet as the Dutchman will not be returning to the football pitch until the end of the year.
It is shaping up to be a must-win game for Spurs, and they would hope to face a Leeds side already on the beach, with Premier League survival secured.
