Leeds United were narrowly defeated by title-chasing Manchester City at Elland Road.
Antoine Semenyo’s strike on the brink of half-time was enough to separate the two sides, with Semenyo acknowledging just how tough the game against Leeds was in his post-match interview.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin uncharacteristically wasted a few valuable chances, and United’s lack of ruthlessness ultimately came back to bite them, despite Leeds dominating large portions of the game.
Pep Guardiola was also on the receiving end of some criticism from the Elland Road crowd, with the Spaniard reacting to his not-so-warm welcome in West Yorkshire after the game.
Pep Guardiola reacts to ruthless reception from Leeds fans
Given the fact that Guardiola took a sly dig at Leeds following City’s narrow victory, this will only make United supporters dislike him even more.
During his post-game interview, Guardiola reacted to the reception he received in LS11.
“They were chanting ‘W*****! W*****!” Guardiola said.
“The Leeds fans chanted at me, it normally happens,” he continued.
Unfortunately for Leeds, the hostile atmosphere they created was not enough to ensure that their side got a positive result, with the Whites’ manager, Daniel Farke, being at the centre of his own controversy at full-time after the German was sent off following a confrontation with the referee.

Data suggests Leeds should have scored against Manchester City
Even in defeat, this Leeds side impressed yet again, further proving that they are capable of going toe-to-toe with the very best sides the Premier League has to offer.
- Leeds created an xG of 1.47 against Manchester City, suggesting they should have scored
- City themselves only just edged Leeds when it came to xG, with the visitors recording 1.77 xG
- United squandered two big chances in the game, too, which ultimately proved costly (Sofascore)
Of the 1.47 xG that Leeds created, 0.78 of it was accumulated by Calvert-Lewin, with the Englishman being wasteful in front of goal, which has been a rarity so far in his career at Leeds.
Hopefully, for Leeds, they can take the positives from this game into their upcoming fixture against Sunderland, which is set to take place on Tuesday night under the floodlights at Elland Road.
