Leeds United will have nine more Premier League games to decide their future. Just weeks ago, it looked like the Whites were favourite to escape relegation.

After two disappointing results in a row, it looks like the threat of relegation is back again. Leeds failed to get even a point from two games against Manchester City and Sunderland, which has them looking over their shoulders. West Ham won their game on Wednesday night, with Forest also getting a crucial draw.

Now, there are just three points separating Daniel Farke’s men and the relegation zone. There is still a lot to play for in the rest of the season, but things are not looking promising.

Leeds United chief speaks on PSR and club’s financial future

Heading into this season, the fanbase were excited when club chief Paraag Marathe promised to spend. But that excitement dipped when Leeds United failed to land marquee names. Club chiefs revealed that PSR played a big part in them failing to sign some of these big targets; including Jorgen Strand Larsen, who was a priority in January. With the summer approaching, and Leeds’ status in the Premier League unclear, many are worried about the club’s financial future.

Leeds United director Peter Lowy has urged fans that the club is confident of maintaining their current stable situation. “We should be fine,” Lowy said speaking to BBC Radio Leeds.

He also added that managing the finances will not necessarily affect things too much on the pitch: “As Paraag Marathe said, we will maximise what we can do to the best on the pitch.”

Lowy also pointed out that this summer, it will be inevitable that some players could leave to balance the books for PSR.

“You always have to be working and managing PSR on both sides of the fence, both when you buy and when you sell,”

Premier League revenue will be key to financial future

Looking at everything Peter Lowy has said, it looks like the 49ers are intent on keeping their ambition in line with the club’s finances. But one thing is clear; the money from the Premier League will be crucial. The Whites cannot really afford to miss out on next season’s improved broadcast deal, and other things the league has in the pipeline down the line. This is why the ownership is intent on pushing the club to establish themselves back in the top flight. It opens a lot of doors financially, and allows the club to be run easier. These final games of the season could well decide any future financial plans at Elland Road.
