4 Leeds United players who could be heading for the exit in January

January is just months away, but some Leeds United fans have their eye on the winter market. Some feel that the 49ers did not solve the club’s problems in the summer and could do with some reinforcements.

Leeds spent a lot of money beefing the squad with James Trafford, Tarik Muharemovic, Nico Elvedi and Harry Wilson.

The team have clearly benefitted from this as they have started the season on a very good note. Daniel Farke’s side sit in fifth place and are unbeaten in their five league games.

In the next few months, there is no doubt players will continue to be linked with moves to Elland Road.

While some first team players could also be on their way out as plans develop between now and January.

Fans will be eager to see the January window arrive as it could mean new players come through the door.

But Leeds United are well placed to sanction more than one departure, looking at the options in the squad. Some are already close to an exit, while others are out of contract in the next nine months.

James has recently been linked with an exit from Elland Road as Championship sides have shown interest.

The winger has not been great since last year. He failed to get a goal contribution in 21 games in all competitions last season, but he has scored a goal in the first seven games of this campaign.

His spot in the team is awkward ever since the switch in system under Daniel Farke. Ultimately, the decisio to leave Ellad Road could lie with the Welsh iteratioal.

Sean Longstaff is another player that has been very out of form since the end of last season.

The midfielder was first choice to start last year, but injury cut his promising start short. And when he came back, he had slipped down the pecking order.

There were rumours that the former Newcastle man wanted to leave in the summer, but he stayed around. If he continues to go without playing time in the next few months, he could look to leave in January.

His injury last season means he has barely played to start this year.

And this could be a negative factor considering that his contract runs until the summer. Daniel Farke has always been keen on the midfielder, but there is no certainty over his future.

January could give Leeds the perfect chance to cash in before he leaves for free.

Nmecha is also another player out of contract next summer.

The German has played a key role as a squad player for this Leeds United side for a while. But given the fact that he had interest in the summer, he could easily be a target for other clubs in January.

And if the Whites have not offered him a deal, it is very unlikely that he stays.
