FIFA order Leeds to pay £24.5million over contract breach

According to The Athletic, FIFA have ordered Leeds United to pay Jean-Kevin Augustin £24.5million after being found to have breached their former player’s contract.

Augustin, who is now at FC Basel, took the case to FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber, who ruled partially in his favour. Leeds have appealed against the ruling.

Leeds’ representatives said that the club cannot “comment on an ongoing legal matter.” when asked about the case. The figure is said to include payment in full of the player’s €90,000 per week salary over a five-year period.

Last December, Leeds reached a £15.5m settlement with RB Leipzig over Augustin. The Whites previously lost their Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) case after the two clubs were locked in a dispute over the move. Eventually, the case was ‘amicably resolved’.

Augustin only featured in three games for the club before playing for Nantes and currently Basel. Leeds were ordered to pay the full £18million fee agreed with Leipzig at the time of Augustin’s loan move in January 2020.
