Leeds United wonderkid answers question on future

Leeds United youngster Archie Gray answered an important question regarding his future after picking up the Young Player of the Year award at the EFL awards.

The 18-year-old has been one of English football’s breakout stars, becoming an integral part of Leeds’ push for promotion back to the Premier League.

Playing in midfield and at right-back for Daniel Farke this season, he’s looked right at home playing in an incredibly competitive Championship season.

The praise Gray has been receiving from the media all season was backed up as he took home the Young Player of the Year award, beating Norwich City’s Jon Rowe and Birmingham City’s Jordan James to the accolade.

Gray also joined the likes of Jude Bellingham, and fellow Leeds United academy graduate, Lewis Cook to claim the Apprentice of the Year award.

Not only has Gray been performing well for his club, but he recently made his England U21 debut, scoring and assisting in his first two games.

Since Gray is also eligible to play for Scotland through his grandfather, Leeds United legend Eddie Gray, questions have been raised about who young Archie will represent at international level.

What did Gray say?

When asked about his international future by talkSPORT, the youngster said, “My hopes are to play for England, definitely. It’s where I’m from, where I’ve grown up. I am three quarters English. My Dad, and my Grandad are totally happy. Eddie supports Scotland but he’s happy if I’m happy.”

What next for Gray?

Winning individual awards is great, but the focus has to be on Leeds United’s last few games of the season.

Disappointing results against Coventry City, Sunderland, and Blackburn have left the club’s hopes of automatic promotion in the balance.

Gray has been outstanding for United so far this season, and he’ll have to be at his best as the club face Middlesbrough, QPR, and Southampton in their remaining games of the season.
