There is everything at stake this weekend when Leeds United face Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s men will continue their pursuit of the title, while the Whites need points for safety.
The last meeting between these two sides ended in a dramatic win for City. They took a 2-0 lead over Leeds at half time before Daniel Farke’s changes saw his side mount an incredible comeback in the second half. Ultimately a late goal from Phil Foden in stoppage time was enough to seal all three points.
This time around Guardiola’s men will be the visitors as they come to Elland Road. Leeds United have had a formidable effort at their home ground; they have lost just two games since November.
Leeds United star has perfect opportunity against Pep Guardiola on Saturday
After scoring at the Etihad, Lukas Nmecha now has another opportunity to punish Pep Guardiola. The German striker started his career at Manchester City and spent 11 years in their youth ranks. During his time there, he was one of the highly-rated youngsters in the academy setup. Unfortunately for him, during that period, City were fighting for trophies on all fronts.
| Competition | Games | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premier League | 21 | 6 | 1 |
| EFL Cup | 1 | 0 | 0 |
| FA Cup | 2 | 1 | 1 |
| TOTAL | 24 | 7 | 2 |
Nmecha made his senior debut in 2018, 11 years after joining as a youth player. He made a total of just two appearances with the Manchester side, and was never really trusted by Guardiola. The forward eventually left the Etihad in 2021 where he forged the career that saw him land in West Yorkshire this summer. So far this season, he has shown that he is capable of being a Premier League player – scoring six league goals this season.

Lukas Nmecha has been an important signing
Nmecha has been great this season, despite not being favoured by the fans when he arrived. Just like Dominic Calvert-Lewin, many were concerned about his goal record and injury history. But so far this season, he has been largely available and has shown his quality. In the end, the 49ers got it right, getting a player who can fit in as a starter and a quality back up at the striker’s position on a free transfer. If Leeds stay up this season, he will be a very big part of that.
