‘A level above us’ – Bournemouth boss Iraola makes shocking admission on Leeds United

Leeds United had the better of the exchanges against Bournemouth on Saturday at Elland Road and should have won all three points. An injury-time equaliser helped the Cherries to steal an away point, but Andoni Iraola is aware of the challenge his team had to withstand.

The Whites looked on course to win a second successive Premier League game on Saturday, but Bournemouth scored a late equaliser to steal some of the thunder away from a brilliant performance from Daniel Farke’s side.

Leeds were the dominant team on the pitch, and Iraola told reporters after the game that his players really struggled to match the physicality of the home side during the game.

The Bournemouth boss has added more to his observation of the game, and it is clear that he is more than just pleased to escape with a point from Elland Road this weekend.

‘Leeds United were a level above us’ – Iraola

Bournemouth have been one of the most physically intense teams in the Premier League under Iraola, but the Spaniard was blown away by Leeds’  physicality.

He stressed that his side are used to playing against such physical teams, but conceded that Leeds were just too good on the day and put his side under intense pressure at Elland Road.

The Bournemouth manager conceded that Farke’s team made it really uncomfortable for the players, indicating that they were more than happy to escape with a point.

“We normally accept this kind of physicality”, Iraola told AFCB TV.

“But I think today they were a level above us. Reading the situations, every free kick, every long throw – they put you under pressure here.

“And it became uncomfortable.”

Leeds look more than competitive in the Premier League

Apart from a 5-0 battering at the hands of Arsenal, Leeds have looked competitive in every game and have eight points from their opening six fixtures.

They have beaten Everton and Wolves, and drawn games against Newcastle and Bournemouth. They are all established Premier League sides.

Farke has built a team who are hard to play against at home and resilient on the road. They seem far away from being relegation fodder or even a side that could be close to the drop zone.

With players like Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach coming to the fore, the Whites are now looking like a team that will defy expectations this season.
