Leeds United manager Daniel Farke proved his detractors wrong by comfortably keeping the Whites in the Premier League and avoiding relegation.

Farke earned massive praise for ensuring that Leeds remained in the Premier League with games to spare and finishing 14th in their first season back in the top flight.

However, the Leeds boss has a year left on his contract, and the club have been in talks with Farke and his representatives over agreeing on a new deal this summer.

Farke has been expected to sign on fresh terms as Leeds have no plans to replace him. However, Adam Pope’s latest update is a warning sign for the Yorkshire giants.

Adam Pope reveals no agreement over a new contract for Daniel Farke

The 49ers want to hold on to Farke, and the club have insisted that a new three-year plan is being discussed with the manager ahead of the new season.

With pre-season just days away, many Leeds United supporters would have expected the club to have announced Daniel Farke’s new contract by now.

But Adam Pope has revealed that talks are still ongoing between Leeds and Farke, indicating that no new agreement is still in place between the two sides.

He stressed that it would not be unusual for a new contract to remain unsigned by the time pre-season begins, while acknowledging that no agreement has been finalised yet.

Pope said on the BBC’s Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet podcast: “The manager situation, as far as we know, is ongoing as well.

“We have been in situations where head coaches or managers have necessarily signed that deal before pre-season starts.

“Do we get angsty if that does not get done before August 22?”

Leeds cannot dither with the manager for too long

Farke has been a massive success at Leeds, and the work he carried out to get them promoted and keep them in the Premier deserve huge recognition.

He won over the fans, found a style of play that made Leeds hard to beat in the Premier League and ensured they comfortably avoided relegation last season.

Finalising a new contract for him should not have been a stretched-out process, as Farke deserves the new deal and a pay rise for what he achieved at Elland Road.

The German would be in-demand if he decides to move on from Leeds, and the club cannot afford to mess around with his future at this stage.

Leeds must show how much they want Farke to stay, sort out the new deal soon and back him properly in the market this summer.
