Leeds United are going into the home stretch of the season in 15th place in the Premier League. They are not clear of relegation yet, but a few points here and there could seal the deal in the next 11 days.
The club’s turnaround late last year has helped them a lot, getting points off Liverpool, Manchester United earlier this year was a massive boost. Now they find themselves six points above the relegation zone. Their upcoming fixtures will not be easy as they face teams in and around them for the next few weeks.
Farke’s men face Manchester City at Elland Road this coming Saturday, with Pep Guardiola’s men desperate for a win.
Leeds United stars will be furious after latest revelation
Things are going well so far, but one thing that has been worrying Leeds United recently is conceding late goals. Their draw with Aston Villa came courtesy of Tammy Abraham finding the net in the 88th minute. And after two goal lead, they lost to Newcastle in stoppage time. When Farke was asked about his team being susceptible to late goals, he had this to say:
”Overall there is never one easy reason. Several reasons. We have to go over the line physically and once we’re in the lead, sometimes due to their quality they’re capable of scoring.
”Also it’s our first season in the Premier League, and comes with experience on how to deal with these situations.”
| Team | Goals Conceded |
|---|---|
| Leeds United | 12 |
| Burnley | 10 |
| Newcastle United | 8 |
| West Ham | 8 |
”Also has to do with quality opponents can bring off the bench, also if you could be more effective to score the second goal.
”We’ve also won important points in the last minutes against Liverpool, Everton, Fulham. Sometimes you’re a bit lucky and sometimes lose a point late.”
Club must fix up these issues
Farke outlined the issues at Leeds United, but they can be addressed. He mentions that physically his side need to get over the line late in games, which explains why sometimes he is hesitant to make late changes. The Leeds boss can work on that and optimize the team’s fitness levels in training, or tone down the intensity and pressing the first 45 minutes of games.
Mentioning the quality of options off the bench is also an issue he can address. Farke’s comments imply that he does not really trust the quality on the Leeds United bench, but there are good enough players that can impact the game. Having Gnonto, Tanaka and Longstaff should be enough quality to grab a result or see out games in the second half.
