Chris Wood could return to Leeds United in January transfer shock

Former Leeds United striker Chris Wood has been linked with a return to Elland Road ahead of the winter transfer window. It would be a remarkable turn of events if the New Zealand international moves back to the Yorkshire giants in the middle of the season.

Wood had a wonderful two-year spell at Leeds more than a decade back and scored 44 goals in 88 appearances for the club. However, he left to join Burnley with the Whites languishing in mid-table mediocrity of the Championship.

The 33-year-old striker has emerged as a proven goalscorer in the Premier League after having spells at Burnley and Newcastle United before joining Forest in 2023.

However, Ange Postecoglou’s arrival has altered the balance at the City Ground, and the new Forest manager does not consider the striker indispensable.

Leeds are plotting a Chris Wood return in January

Leeds are in the market for a winger and an attacking midfielder in the winter window, but Wood’s situation at Forest has caught their attention.

According to LeedsUnited.News, the Whites are keeping close tabs on the forward’s situation at Forest ahead of the winter transfer window.

Leeds will try to snap up the New Zealand striker in January if Forest agrees to a deal in the coming months.

The Whites are ready to jump into the race and bring Wood back to Elland Road to boost their Premier League survival chances.

However, clubs will link any move for Wood to Postecoglou’s future at Forest, as he faces pressure after losing five of his first seven games in charge.

The 33-year-old striker will likely leave Forest in the winter window only if Postecoglou remains in charge at the City Ground.

Forest sacked Nuno Espirito Santo in the last international break and just weeks after bringing in his replacement, they are again considering a change.

He would be a brilliant signing for Leeds

Wood has developed into a proven goalscorer in the Premier League since leaving Leeds, and is a hugely valued forward in the top flight.

If the turmoil at Forest continues in the next few months, there is a real chance that the Kiwi will look to leave, and Leeds should pounce to take him back to Elland Road.

He will be real competitionf for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and another Premier League goalscorer Farke can turn to if the former Everton striker fails to deliver.

Wood will be a game-changing signing for Leeds in the winter window if they can pull it off.

Can you name the team Leeds United signed these players from in the 2010s?
