Dan James reveals why he stayed at Leeds United

Leeds United forward Daniel James revealed that he only stayed at the club this summer because of head coach Daniel Farke.

James, who was signed by Leeds back in 2021 under Marcelo Bielsa, has had an up and down career at Elland Road. The winger was deemed surplus to requirements just a year ago as he was forced out of the club on deadline day in a loan move to Premier League side Fulham.

He was loaned out last season after concerns over lack of playing time; he started a total of 7 league games for Fulham, with the rest being substitute appearances.

He returned to Leeds United in the summer with no clue where his future was, but the Welshman revealed that after a conversation with Daniel Farke they both agreed that the player should remain a part of the team:

“I think I came back a little later for pre-season with having internationals and he sat me down on the plan and just said how he felt and that he wants me here. I said exactly the same and having that was really night to hear.”

James has been a key part of one of the most devastating attacks in the Championship this season alongside Joel Piroe, Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville.

Earlier this season, Daniel Farke singled out how important Dan James could be in a team like Leeds United after his cameo helped the team come from behind to draw against West Brom:

“Constantly proved to be the best outlet for Leeds in the final third.”

“Pace, dribbling and movement kept the defenders guessing and his final product was better than usual.”

“Created numerous chances and produced two of the evening’s best efforts.”

The 26-year old is having one of his best seasons ever, having already scored 6 goals and provided 4 assists in the league so far. James is on a great run of form after scoring against his old team Swansea, and netting against Middlesbrough in back to back games.
