Daniel Farke confirms major Leeds injury blow following Chelsea defeat

Leeds United were left frustrated at Wembley after a narrow FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea, just missing out on a place in the final.

Daniel Farke’s side couldn’t quite make their opportunity count, as their push for a first final in 53 years ended in a tight loss at the national stadium.

A first-half strike from Enzo Fernandez proved to be the difference, sending Chelsea through to face Manchester City in next month’s final.

However, it has gotten worse for Leeds as after the game, Daniel Farke has confirmed a major injury blow that could have a big impact on the end of their season.

Daniel Farke confirms hamstring injury for Gabriel Gudmundsson

Gudmundsson is a major injury concern for Leeds’ Premier League fixture against Burnley at Elland Road on Friday night after sustaining a hamstring injury.

He lasted the full 90 minutes against Chelsea, but could barely run towards the end as he was visibly struggling with the hamstring problem.

Ethan Ampadu signalled to the bench that the wing-back was struggling. However, he was allowed to limp on and complete the full 90 minutes at Wembley.

Farke confirmed the injury and said after the game: “Seems to be a hamstring injury, not great news, we have to assess him right now.”

Even a minor hamstring injury will likely keep him out of the Burnley game. However, any major tear could force him to miss the rest of the season.

Leeds will keep their fingers crossed

Gudmundsson has been a major player for Leeds this season, and his absence would be a major problem with four games left in the season.

James Justin could shift to left wing-back, and Joe Rodon could take his place in central defence. However, Farke would prefer to have Gudmundsson back before the end of the season.

He provides much-needed balance to their team, and his attacking thrusts on the left-hand side have been a feature of Leeds football this season.

Leeds would think they have already done enough to ensure that his injury would not have a major impact on their Premier League fate.

As things stand, Gudmundsson is unlikely to be fit to be in the squad to face Burnley at Elland Road on Friday night.
