Fans had their ideal Leeds United starting lineup in mind before the season commenced. But in recent weeks, Daniel Farke has made some key changes to the first team.

The Whites got off to a flying star this year with back-to-back victories over Nottingham Forest.

Leeds then had two draws against Brighton and Brentford before their brutal defeat at the hands of Chelsea. Farke’s side bounced back in dramatic fashion with a huge win over Newcastle.

With eight points out of a possible 12, and the team in third place, fans can be happy about the start to the season.

But there has been a lot of tweaking done to the team since the first game that has helped Leeds United get the right results.

Daniel Farke has rotated the midfield to find balance, and is still figuring out his best combination in attack. The players have not made it easy with how well most have been playing to start the season.

Jaka Bijol has found himself on the bench in recent games; he has started just one game in the last three.

Nico Elvedi has been the one who has stepped in Bijol’s shoes and delivered. When asked why he made that change, the Leeds boss explained that it is more to do with the form of the summer signings.

”Jaka is still a key player, always normal to have a period where it’s more difficult to be involved. Jaka is one of our vice captains and very important. Nico producing very good performances, good on the ball, reads the game well, fitness level and pace is good. You can see he plays with confidence. Happy to have the competition.”

Depth is a very good thing to have in the Premier League

Jaka Bijol sitting out a few games should not really be a concern for anyone. Farke has clearly stated that Elvedi is more in form and is giving the team what they need at the moment.

And fans must remember that this is how the team is playing in the absence of Joe Rodon.

Last season, when Rodon was out, Farke scrambled to find a balance in the defence that worked. But this time around, the team seems to be playing well despite being without a key player.

This shows that the 49ers have done a brilliant job with recruitment in the transfer window.
