Leeds United will be hoping to bounce back from their defeat in the league this week.
Their six game unbeaten run was brought to an end by Newcastle. Some fans will feel like the team could have gotten something out of the game up until the penalty awarded in added time.
Farke’s side now have another challenge ahead of them as they face Derby County in the FA Cup.
Since the German took charge at Elland Road, he has made it quite clear that he is not a fan of cup competitions. Almost every season he has been in charge, his team has exited at the first round.
Hopefully this time around, the Leeds boss will take the opportunity to try and qualify for the next round. But Derby are not to be underestimated.
Derby boss takes dig at Leeds United ahead of FA Cup game
Ahead of the game, Derby boss John Eustace has pointed out the massive gap in investment between the two sides. According to him, because of the money Leeds have spent on their team, they are the overwhelming favourites for Saturday’s clash:
“They’re an exceptional team, the best team in the league last year for sure, they’ve got a fantastic manager there and they’re doing great in the Premier League now.” Eustace said speaking in the pre-match press conference.
“They’ve spent a lot of money as well and added to a really strong squad, so we know we’re up against a top, top team and it’s a challenge we’re all looking forward to.”
The hosts are midtable in the Championship with 35 points from 26 games. Their home form is near the bottom of the league, which will give Leeds a lot of hope when they visit on Saturday.
Every promoted team will spend money
John Eustace is right, Leeds did spend a lot of money this summer, but so did the other promoted clubs. Sunderland were one of the highest spending teams in the Premier League this season.
If you don’t spend at this level then you cannot survive; the quality is a drastic shift from the Championship.
In comparison, the Whites’ squad would cost many times more than the Derby County team. But in football, when two sides meet on the pitch on match day, multiple factors decide who will come out victorious.
