‘Everything wrong with the game…’ – Liverpool legend slams Sunderland after disgraceful antics against Leeds United

Leeds United

Leeds United fans were hopeful of getting a result on Tuesday night, but the Whites were very unfortunate at Elland Road. Daniel Farke’s side once again slipped to another home defeat this week.

Just like other games at Elland Road, Leeds came out of the blocks flying. They managed to hold Sunderland off for most of the first half, and the game was evenly matched for most of the 90 minutes. However, the Whites continue to lack a cutting edge in front of goal, as they only managed half chances for most of the game.

After this result, Leeds now have to be looking over their shoulders as their relegation rivals can leapfrog them in the coming days.

Liverpool legend slams Sunderland for Leeds United game

Regis Le Bris’ side may have won the game, but they leaned on off the ball antics very hard. Going down every time they were touched, delaying restarts, and their goalkeeper even went down for them to have a ‘tactical’ break. Steve McManaman, who was on TNT Sports, slammed the away side for their antics on Tuesday night:

“I thought there was too much playacting, too much time wasting, I thought everything wrong with the game came out tonight, I know Sunderland won’t care but as somebody who watches it and appreciates and wants to see nice football, getting the ball down and playing, there was a real lack of quality tonight from both teams.”

This comes days after Manchester City also employed time wasting tactics to see out the second half on Saturday night.

Whites need to bounce back from this result

Leeds United need to shake this off and get back on track this weekend. The Whites cannot afford to go on a slump at this point of the season; two losses have dampened the confidence of the team. This comes off the back of a decent run of form that started at the end of last year. With games against Crystal Palace and Brenford next, there is no obvious game where the team can get three points.

Daniel Farke and the players have to go back to the drawing board and figure out what works in the final stretch of the season. Things can easily change at the bottom of the table and Leeds have now missed a huge chance to move clear of the relegation zone.
