Leeds United produced a scintillating performance under the lights at Elland Road tonight to beat Newcastle United 4-1 in a big Premier League game.
The Whites bucked the trend of this weekend and became the first home side in the entire division to win a game after nine other teams stumbled on home turf.
Ao Tanaka’s deflected shot got things going for Leeds in the first half before Jayden Bogle and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored before the referee blew the whistle for half-time.
Noah Okafor added a fourth just before the hour mark, before Newcastle scored a late consolation to face-save and deny James Trafford a clean sheet.

Former Premier League manager can’t get enough of Leeds United’s intensity
Ex-Wolves boss Rob Edwards was in absolute awe of Leeds after the game, and has conceded that there was more to their game than just intensity and fast attacks.
He stressed that Leeds looked like a well-drilled outfit, who were organised and coached properly. Daniel Farke has turned them into a proper team.
Rob Edwards said on Sky Sports: “I loved the way they start the games. The intensity we spoke about before the game was there.
There’s more to them than just fast attacks and running.
We noticed lots of rotations on this right-hand side with Bogle, Justin and Tanaka, all having a good relationship.
They’re well organised, well coached.
Ampadu and Tanaka in midfield are exceptional footballers in their own right. They’re a tremendous team.”
Europe may not be a dream this season
It is still far too early to read too much into the Premier League table after only four games, but Leeds have certainly made an impressive start and currently find themselves sitting third.
Daniel Farke has repeatedly played down talk of European football this season, yet given the way his side have performed so far, it is becoming increasingly difficult to rule them out of the race.
Injuries and suspensions will inevitably test the squad at some point, but with Leeds set to largely have just one game a week for the remainder of the campaign, they should have enough time to recover and maintain their defensive solidity.
For now, there is absolutely no harm in Leeds dreaming about a potential European adventure.
