When the 49ers took over Leeds United a few years ago, their vision for the club was clear – success on and off the pitch. And their actions till date have clearly proven that.

Many were not really convinced that the American owners cared about the team, but so far, they have done a decent job. They managed to hire Daniel Farke who has brought the club back to the top flight after two attempts. And in the Championship and this summer, they splashed the cash on the field investing in quality players. The plan is to keep the club in the top flight for the near future, but it will be very dicey this season considering the club’s current position.

The Whites are not out of the woods yet; with nine games to go, they still have to pick up a few points in order to guarantee their safety. And that holds a lot of importance considering the club’s plans in the near future.

Leeds United could tap into £2bn investment from Elland Road plan

The Elland Road expansion is the main thing in the club’s future – plans to increase the current capacity from 37,645 seats to roughly 53,000 are in the works. The 49ers Enterprises see this as a cornerstone for the club’s financial future. Per journalist Simon Cairnes, Leeds City Council is considering proposals for a joint venture with Leeds United. This could unlock a whopping £2bn in investment around Elland Road.

Plans include the city council enter into legal agreements to create a new development company with the club to oversee regeneration of land surrounding the stadium. This will include the 30 acres of council-owned land close to the stadium. All of this will be under the City Council’s “Elland Road 2025 informal planning statement” which could bring in £2bn in direct capital investment if everything goes according to plan.

Deal could unlock so much for the club

The 49ers want to make the club a global one, and increase the revenue to the team. On the pitch, they have done their best but have been handicapped due to PSR over the last few years. So off the pitch, the plan is to increase revenue via Elland Road – expanding the home ground guarantees more money in the coming years. Staying afloat in the Premier League will also be important, with improved broadcasting deals and the pending change of PSR constraints, Leeds stand to gain a lot. Hopefully Daniel Farke and the players can deliver at the end of the season.
