‘In him I see…’ – Clarence Seedorf’s Weston McKennie claim will shock Leeds United fans

Weston McKennie

Weston McKennie is playing for one of the giants of football in Juventus. However, Leeds fans do not have anything good to say about the American midfielder.

The United States international was horrible for a Leeds side that got relegated from the Premier League at the end of a horrendous 2022/23 season.

McKennie looked ill-suited for the Premier League, was not good on the ball and seemed to lack the physicality needed to cope with the demands of the English top flight.

He seems to have rekindled his career at Juventus despite remaining deeply unpopular at Elland Road. However, praise from midfield legend Clarence Seedorf will genuinely shock the Elland Road faithful.

‘I see myself in Weston McKennie’ – Clarence Seedorf

Seedorf is a genuine midfield legend who won the Champions League and Serie A with AC Milan, and praise from him for any midfielder is big.

McKennie was shocking at Leeds, and no one who watched in Yorkshire would even dare to compare him with Seedorf or any midfield great.

However, the Netherlands legend insisted that he sees a lot of his younger self in McKennie and believes he is a top player.

He stressed that the former Leeds star has everything needed to become a midfield great and makes an impact on for his team at both ends of the pitch.

“In him, I see myself in my early career years”, Seedorf said.

“He has everything for a great midfielder – tactical intelligence and a willingness to put himself at the service of the team, but above all an excellent quality in both phases of play.”

He is having a great season at Juventus

Leeds fans do not have any fond memories of McKennie, who played a big part in getting the team relegated from the Premier League in the 2022/23 season.

However, he has developed his game at Juventus, where he has emerged as a key player in the team and is one of the lynchpins of the side.

Weston McKennie – Juventus Stats This Season
Competition breakdown: matches, goals, assists and minutes played
Competition Matches Goals Assists Minutes
Serie A 25 4 5 1,855′
UEFA Champions League 10 4 1 900′
Italy Cup 2 0 1 180′
Total 37 8 7 2,935′

McKennie has scored eight goals and registered seven assists in all competitions for Juventus from his midfield position this season.

Juventus are nowhere close to being in the title race, but the American has impressed and scored some vital goals for the team in the ongoing campaign.

Leeds supporters may not have anything good to say about McKennie, but he has been gathering admirers in Italy with his performances.

Seedorf may have gone overboard, but there is a reason why he is rated so highly in Serie A.

He’s having a good season at Juventus as the game is played at a snails pace in Italy, he wasn’t fit enough, fast enough or good enough for the intensity of the Premier League.
