International round-up: four Leeds players receive international call-ups

Whilst Leeds United fans will be unable to see their club play for two weeks during the upcoming international break, they will still be able to watch four members of their current squad in action for their respective countries during this period.

The development comes as the squad lists for both Scotland and Wales’ 2024 European Championship qualification fixtures were released earlier today, with Whites players featuring in each.

More members of Daniel Farke’s squad are present in Rob Page’s Wales side, with centre-back Joe Rodon, defensive midfielder Ethan Ampadu and winger Dan James all named.

Wales’ first fixture of the forthcoming international break comes in the form of a friendly against Gibraltar, who they host on 11th October. With the Red Dragons currently languishing in fourth place in Group D, a victory over Julio Cesar Ribas’ side would be pivotal in building momentum before a tough clash with joint group leaders Croatia on 15th October.

Club captain Liam Cooper is the only Leeds player to receive a call-up for Steve Clarke’s Scotland outfit, with the 32-year-old being recalled after missing out last time due to injury.

Scotland are a side which are flying high at the moment, finding themselves at the top of Group A with five wins from a possible five. A six-point margin exists between them and second-placed Spain, albeit the Spaniards have played one game less.

If the Tartan Army manage to beat Spain in Seville in their qualifying fixture on 12th October, their place in the 2024 Euros will be officially confirmed. Were Norway unable to beat Cyprus on the same night Scotland’s qualification would also be secured, irrespective of the result in Spain.

Leeds are set to host QPR at Elland Road this evening in the first of two back-to-back home fixtures, with Daniel Farke keen to get points on the board following a disappointing 3-1 defeat against fellow promotion hopefuls Southampton over the weekend.
