What started off as a promising summer for Leeds United has slowed down over the last couple of weeks. The 49ers made their first piece of business an in-house one.

They signed club captain Ethan Ampadu to a long-term deal.

He was reportedly being monitored by other Premier League clubs, so the contract had to be agreed quickly. Club chairman Paraag Marathe said there was no hesitation to sort the details.

Last week, multiple players left Elland Road after their contracts expired.

Karl Darlow, Alex Cairns and Sam Byram are no longer under contract at the club and are now free agents. Reports suggest that Cairns has verbally agreed to a new contract.

But everything is quiet on news around Darlow.

The veteran keeper received interest from Manchester United and Everton. Fans will be waiting to see if he does decide to leave Elland Road this summer.

Sam Byram was with Leeds United last season, but is currently a free agent.

He is one of the players that has been offered a new contract, but he is yet to decide his future. Daniel Farke made the bold decision to bring him back in 2023 after he impressed in pre-season.

According to Football Insider, Byram has made his decision; he will be joining Norwich City.

The defender will join the Championship side, who need experienced cover at left back. The 32-year old managed over 70 appearances in his second spell with the Whites, winning the Championship last year.

Why Sam Byram would leave Leeds

Graham Smyth spoke about this a few weeks ago, saying Byram would be considering his options.

“I think he will definitely be exploring his options to go and play.” Smyth said on the Inside Elland Road podcast.

“I’d be surprised if he settles for a Carabao Cup game and may be a Premier League appearance or two.

“Unless he is ready to kind of essentially call time on his career, why’d you re-sign for the club?”

He only made five appearances this past season, and played just 1oo minutes in all competitions. Fans thought he made his goodbye in the final home game of the season, but Leeds offered him a new deal.

Now, it looks like he has finally made his decision on where he will play football next season.
