Leeds’ Summerville named in EFL Championship Team of the Week

Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville was the hero for his side against Norwich City at the weekend, and has seen his efforts rewarded by securing a spot in the EFL’s Championship Team of the Week for the latest round of second-tier action.

Things looked to be going badly for Whites manager Daniel Farke upon his return to Carrow Road – a ground at which he twice gained promotion for the Canaries – as he found his side 2-0 down at the half-time interval.

The first-half was one in which Leeds spurned several decent chances in front of goal, yet they weren’t as wasteful following the break, managing to fight back from a two-goal deficit to emerge 3-2 victors on the day.

The wheels for a Whites comeback were set in motion by winger Dan James, whose teasing cross into the box found itself turned into the net by Norwich defender Shane Duffy – a player who scored at both ends during the match after notching the Canaries’ first goal of the game a matter of minutes into the contest.

An inspired brace from Summerville – who impressed all game – continued the Leeds United fightback, as a delightful curling effort from the edge of the box and a ruthless finish from close range left Norwich keeper George Long helpless between the sticks.

Summerville’s immense display against David Wagner’s side saw him given an overall 9.5/10 rating on WhoScored for the match, a figure which handed him his slot amid the Championship Team of the Week selections.

The Dutchman’s performance saw him double his total current goals tally for the season, with the 21-year-old now having scored four goals and assisted twice this term.

With a trip to struggling Stoke City on Wednesday evening on the horizon, Farke will be hoping that another impressive display from Summerville is on the cards, with any sort of goal contribution from the young Dutch talent being crucial to helping the Whites to another three points.
